Where do I install a transmission oil cooler?

The best location is in front of the radiator, but any place with good airflow will work.

How does the transmission cooler attach to the radiator?

The transmission cooler is held in with nylon tie mounts that run through the oil cooler, a rubber spacer and the radiator core.

How do I plumb the transmission cooler into my system?

This procedure varies from vehicle to vehicle. Please refer to the installation instructions that are supplied with your kit. Generally the transmission fluid is routed through the an oil cooler coil that is added to the circuit.

Does installing a transmission oil cooler void my warranty?

No. If there is any question about warranty, install the transmission cooler inline, after the OEM radiator oil cooler.

Why do I need a transmission fluid filter? A temperature gauge?

Transmission fluid life can be dramatically extended if kept cool and clean. An oil filter installed in the circuit, in the line from the transmission to the oil cooler, will achieve this. Filter elements need to be changed only every 50,000 miles. A gauge in the system will alert the driver of any unusual heat problem, or allow monitoring of the transmission temperature.

Can I use a transmission oil cooler to cool engine oil?

No! Generally the tubing used in transmission oil cooler coils is too small and may restrict the oil flow. You can, however, use an engine oil cooler coil for transmission oil.

What size engine oil cooler do I need?

The best-suited engine oil cooler to use is determined by the horsepower output of the engine. Estimate the engine's horsepower and refer to our catalog.
