341B Wideband Air-Fuel Ratio Analysis System

FJO Racing Products 341B Wideband Air-Fuel Ratio Analysis System

FJO Racing Products is very pleased to announce the design and release of its new Wideband AFR controller for the automotive enthusiast. This product is styled after the very popular original FJO Wideband O2 System and is available in single or dual AFR channel models . The wideband controllers are engineered to work with or independently of other FJO products.

These new, exciting controllers offer features like dual AFR channels, dual 5-volt inputs, dual digital outputs and dual user-programmable AFR voltage outputs. Using the FJO WBAFR software, tuners can now datalog RPM, two AFR channels, two 5-volt sensors (such as TPS or MAP) or two EGT channels. Using Leanest Channel Mode it is possible to monitor two AFR channels with only one display. This system also supports interconnecting two dual channel controllers allowing up to four AFR channels to be logged at the same time. With the user-programmable AFR output curve it is now possible to connect this product to almost any device. These features, combined with a user-replaceable sensor harness available in various lengths, provide DYNO owners with a reliable and accurate dual channel plug-and-go solution. Built to the same rugged specifications as FJO's first wideband product, this product now sets a new standard in tuning tools.

Answering Common Questions About FJO Racing Products 341B Wideband Air-Fuel Ratio Analysis Systems Top

Q: Which sensor should I buy, the SO20003 (NTK) or the SO20004 (Bosch)?

A: There is no simple answer. Although both sensors work very well, there is a difference in their performance. One major difference is that the SO20003 will last longer if used with leaded fuels or in demanding applications. For applications slightly less demanding, the SO20004 would be a suitable option. Because FJO custom calibrates both these sensors in-house, switching between sensor types is a simple controller config change (using the datalogging software included with the controller)

Q: I purchased the SO20004 (Bosch) sensor but I'd like to switch to the SO20003 (NTK) sensor - what do I need to do?

A: Because FJO custom calibrates both these sensors in-house, switching between sensor types is a simple controller config change (using the datalogging software included with the controller). Just buy the sensor you want to use, make the config change and plug it in. That's it!

Q: I bought the FJO controller that was designed to use the SO20001 (NTK-L1H1) sensor. Can I switch my controller to the new SO20003/SO20004 sensors?

A: You will need to contact FJO Techsupport to determine if your controller has the ability to be upgraded. Because the new sensors use a different cable and require a different calibration, your unit will need to be returned to us.

Q: I have dual exhaust but my ECU only has one input. How can I be sure that the unmonitored side doesn't go lean ?

A: Use the FJO dual channel controller and a proprietary configuration mode we call “Leanest channel out”. In this mode the WBAFR controller compares the 2 AFR channels and uses the leaner channel to generate the output. It does this continuously so the output to your ECU or data-logging device will always be the leaner side. If one side goes lean … your ECU will know it!

Q: I only have room for one gauge but I have dual exhaust. What can I do ?

A: Use the FJO dual channel controller and a proprietary configuration mode we call “Leanest channel out”.How the digital ports work is a user configurable parameter. The ” Jumper Detect” setting configures the controller to test for the display-jumper on an unused port every time it is powered on. If the jumper is present, the controller will continuously compare the 2 AFR channels and output the leaner AFR reading on port connected to the display. This is the factory default mode for the dual channel controller.

Q: Where can I install the controller ? What if it gets wet ?

A: The controller can be installed almost anywhere in, on, or under the vehicle. Obviously attaching it to the exhaust manifold is NOT one of those places. CLICK HERE to check out a video and see what happens when our Q/A people have too much time on their hands. (we do not recommend trying this but we do come from a MILITARY electronics background...)

Q: I have the FJO controller connected to my non-FJO ECU (or datalogger) and the AFR on my LED display does not match the AFR displayed on the ECU - how can I correct this ?

A: It would appear that your ECU or datalogger does not have high impedance inputs so it is loading down the analog output from the controller. You will need to calculate a "correction factor" to apply to our published calibration data. A document describing the procedure to do this, along with a spreadsheet is available under our "downloads" section CLICK HERE.

Q: What type of ECU can the controller be used with ?

A: The controller comes configured with an analog 0-5 volt non-linear output, and a linear 1-0 volt linear output. The calibration data is listed in our installation manual. Check your ECU manual to determine if it is capable of handling this type of input. Optionally, the configuration software can be used to program virtually ANY output curve between 0 and 5 volts.

Q: How long is the O2 cable on the controller ?

A: The cable supplied with the kit is approximately 4 feet long. Since the controller is fully sealed it can be installed just about anywhere on the vehicle - even if it gets wet or dirty. There are also optional cables available in 8 foot and 12 foot lengths - perfect for DYNO installations.

Q: Can I order sensor cable extensions for the controller ?

A: If you require a longer sensor cable or a replacement cable, optional cables are available in 4 foot, 8 foot, and 12 foot lengths.

Q: If I buy a controller kit today, can I upgrade it later ?

A: YES! Optional components may be purchased at any time from your authorized FJO dealer.

Q: What type of PC do I need to use the datalogging feature ?

A: The PC software is supported on Win98SE, Win2K, WinXP provided that the hardware has a standard 9-pin serial port. For laptops without a serial port, a USB/SERIAL or PCMCIA/SERIAL adapter is required. Due to the wide variety of these adapters available, FJO cannot guarantee a specific adapter however, our testing has shown that USB/SERIAL adapters using the Prolific Technology PL-2303 controller chip function very well. Other adapters may also work - make sure you have the latest driver for your operating system.

Q: Where can I get the calibration curve for the controller's analog outputs ?

A: This information is included in the installation manual.

In addition, you can download a "correction factor spreadsheet" which will provide you with a custom calibration for your particular installation (takes into account "signal loading" by your ECU or Datalogger).
